Primary Business
Areas:
1. Data Center products and services related
to IBM high-end networking, most notably the enduring IBM 3745 and
3746 FEP (front end processor) product set. Mid-Atlantic is
the only company within the USA specializing in this product set,
and we manage the last remaining inventory from IBM's manufacturing
facility in Havant, UK. We continue to provide field
engineering services for the IBM 3745/3746 and we have committed to
support of this product set and its users through the product
end-of-life.
2. Our operations group provides comprehensive
product end-of-life services for data center managers. Our
service provides convenience in that company personnel are relieved
of many tasks related to coordination among field service
technicians, electronics movers, providers of material,
de-manufacturers and recyclers. Our service ensures that
end-of-life equipment is properly handled by responsible USA
processors.
History:
Mid-Atlantic Research and Services, Inc. was founded
in 1990 and was initially staffed by a talented group of senior
level technical professionals with experience in mainframe computing
and networking. Mid-Atlantic's first work was to provide
consultative and field engineering support to systems integration
firms serving the US military. Our company grew rapidly,
providing mainframe hardware and software services to end-users and
technology companies in the eastern USA. By 1992 we were
serving large data centers throughout the USA, and we had narrowed
our focus to IBM SNA networking hardware and software. We
became the second of only two companies authorized as an IBM
Business Partner for distribution and service of IBM 3745/3746
Communications Controllers and related products. We continued
in that capacity until the product set was withdrawn from marketing
in 2002. In 2004 we purchased the IBM plant inventory so that
we could continue to provide effective support to the thousands of
continuing users. Mid-Atlantic's staff are privileged to have
been able to provide critical customer support, along with other
fine companies, following the 2001 enemy attacks on New York City
and the Pentagon, and later following Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and
other natural calamities
Our electronic waste (e-waste) service offerings
began in 1994, when users of IBM water-cooled mainframe processors
began to switch to air-cooled mainframe equipment and later, to
server technology. With an increasing demand for turnkey
de-installation, removal and disposal service, we developed policies
and best-practices that continue to evolve to serve the needs of our
customers and to fulfill our civic responsibility. We
introduced our complimentary executive consultative services so that
we could leverage our expertise and industry network to more
effectively influence large organizations and their e-waste
reduction, management and disposition efforts.
Geographic Area Served:
We operate and provide service throughout the
United States and in select international locations.
Product Specialty Areas:
We sell and provide services for IBM 3745 and 3746-900 Front End
Processors (FEPs). In 2004 we purchased IBM's entire remaining
3745 and 3746 plant inventory from the IBM manufacturing facility,
Havant, United Kingdom. This has enabled our company to
continue to provide IBM 3745-31A, 3745-61A and 3746-900 FEPs at the
highest engineering levels for those companies that continue to
operate IBM 3745 FEPs as an essential part of critical networks.
