Important Notice for Mid-Atlantic's IBM™ 3745/3746 Customers

After twenty years of service to our customers, and in anticipation of the hardware end-of-service date, the owners of Mid-Atlantic Research and Services are now executing an orderly reduction and eventual shutdown of our IBM 3745/3746 Communications Controller re-manufacturing and hardware field service operations.  We expect to complete shutdown of our hardware operations by September 30, 2010.

The market for IBM 3745/3746 products and services has declined since IBM's 2002 announcement of product marketing withdrawal.  Mid-Atlantic has in fact continued as an exclusive provider of 3745/3746 products and services longer than any of our worldwide competitors.  We purchased the IBM plant inventory and continued to provide quality remanufactured systems to our customers for seven years beyond IBM's departure.

We have been delighted to serve our IBM 3745/3746 customers since 1990 and we're pleased to have contributed to the success of one of the information technology industry's most useful and durable product groups. But we and our customers recognize that the remaining productive 3745/3746 installations are static and of declining utility.  The need for our high quality 3745/3746 specialty services has passed.

We wish to thank our many hundreds of IBM 3745/3746 customers

for their support and friendship over the years.

We are proud to have served you.

Orderly Phase-out of IBM 3745/3746 Operations to be Completed by 09-30-2010.

Since an orderly phase-out is important to Mid-Atlantic and its customers, the following procedures are in place:

  1. Mid-Atlantic will honor and complete all outstanding contracts for products, parts and services. We will also honor outstanding, unexpired quotations and proposals for product or services work.

  2. We are not proposing any new product-related contracts.  We have already completed divestment of our 3745/3746 inventory of frames, features, parts, cables, consumables and documentation, other than that inventory dedicated to open contracts.

  3. We have dismantled our world-class product integration lab, so we will no longer provide field upgrade kits and field installation scripts for field service providers.

  4. To fulfill our civic responsibility, we will continue to provide product de-installation and end-of-life de-manufacturing and recycling indefinitely.

  5. FEP Check service will continue to be available indefinitely, to assist with cost reduction planning and product assessment.

  6. We have allowed our Federal GSA Schedule Contracts to expire in an orderly fashion, with all work completed.

  7. Mid-Atlantic's product specialists will be available for consultation on a best-effort basis through September 30, 2010.

  8. Mid-Atlantic will continue to provide a variety of general business and problem-solving services to its corporate and governmental clients.

The IBM Corporation continues to provide 3745/3746 hardware maintenance service in parts of Asia and the Americas. IBM has announced end of hardware service for Japan, Africa and countries of Europe.

IBM has published documents and has provided paths for migration from the IBM 3745/3746 products.  For information on the capabilities and functions of the CCL emulator and the Enterprise Extender, please click here.
